Welcome to MERlin

an energy research group focusing on the use of hydrogen as a clean energy vector.

MERLin is headed by Prof. Kondo-Francois Aguey-Zinsou  within the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of New South Wales. We are also part of the Hydrogen Energy Research Centre (HERC) at UNSW and support the commercialisation of hydrogen technologies including H2Store and LAVO.

Our expertise is in the development of hydrogen storage materials as seen through the EnergyH Project as well as technologies facilitating the production and use of hydrogen including electrolysers and fuel cells.

Merlin is collaborating with many research groups both nationally and internationally. We offer a wide range of scholarships and research facilities that allow you to get involved in this pioneering research and help make Australia a leader in using hydrogen as a sustainable energy source!

Any application requiring power can use hydrogen. This includes portable electronics like mobile phones and vehicles, as well as being used to power homes and industry. In order for hydrogen to be used as a clean energy source, we need methods in which hydrogen can be stored so it can be distributed across these areas. Our innovative technologies provide means by which this can happen and here we ready to be used now. At Merlin, we have developed practical technologies that allow large amounts of hydrogen to be safely stored in small volumes within certain materials such as metal hydrides.
